Eight Free and Cheap Date Ideas in South End

Dinner and drinks can be fun until the tab starts to add up. Whether you’ve been together for years or both just swiped right, switch up your go-to date spots with these South End events that are not only cheap but also fun.

South End Craft Crawl + South End Beer Map

On Saturday, April 7th, join the South End Craft Crawl to skip the Ubers and spend the day getting from brewery to brewery on via trolley. The best part: It’s free. Except for the beer, of course. While you’re stopping by local breweries and bottle shops, snag a free South End Craft Beer map along the way. You’ll get info about all of the places to get craft beer in the neighborhood along with five self-guided brewery tour suggestions.

South End Gallery Crawl

South End loves a good crawl. The first Friday of each month, check out local galleries and art destinations as they stay open late and plan special events for the South End Gallery Crawl. Visit one gallery or stop by a few, each month’s crawl is self-guided. It’s also free, unless you fall in love with a piece of art.

Take a Rail Trail Adventure

Where else can you find porch swings, a giant seesaw, a music station and photo ops galore? Spend a sunny afternoon to walk, bike, or run along the Rail Trail with your date and see what you can find along the way.  train tracks

Front Porch Sundays

Spend your next Sunday funday wandering through the market at Front Porch Sundays. Kicking off on April 8th, and continuing on the first Sunday of each month, shop goods from local vendors, grab food from a food truck and enjoy live music in the Shook Kelley parking lot.

Friday Movies at Craft

Craft Growler Shop and Tasting Room gives dinner and a movie a makeover with their Friday night movies on their outdoor projector. Each Friday night when it’s nice out, grab a flight and a flatbread while you watch a free movie under the stars.

Test Your Pinball Skills at Palmer Street Game Bar

Bring out your competitive side with a visit to Palmer Street Game Bar. You’ll find pinball and other old school arcade games which are either free or cost a quarter to play. If you bet your pinball skills on a round of beer and win, the date costs even less for you.

Live Music at The Music Yard

Check out Charlotte’s newest live music venue The Music Yard, where you’ll find free concerts, activities and tacos from SouthBound on Friday nights this spring and summer. Tickets are free but you do need to get them in advance.

Check Out a Brewery Workout

A couple that sweats together stays together? South End has free and cheap workout classes every night of the week including run clubs, yoga, and bootcamps – most of which end with a well-deserved beer.
