Holiday cheer is around every corner when you’re in South End! 


There is something for everyone to enjoy, from the smell of fresh donuts wafting through the air as you stroll the neighborhood, to seasonal menus at some of the best restaurants in the Queen City, to street festivals with hundreds of local vendors. Explore all that the neighborhood has to offer while you shop local, celebrate traditions, enjoy holiday décor, toast to a new year, and give back this season!

Big Things Happen When You Shop Small

  • Feel the magic of shopping local and check out all the unique retail shops in South End.
  • Celebrate the season at the Shop Small Saturdays events on November 27, and December 4, 11, and 18th, presented by Fifth Third Bank. Expect hundreds of pop-up vendors located at different retail hubs in one of Charlotte’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Don't forget to grab your Shop Small Hero Card so you can get free South End swag in exchange for shopping small.
  • Head to the South End Market every Saturday from 8 am - 1 pm during the holiday season to pick up fresh produce, fish, meat, bread, and more from local farmers and artisans. 

Sparkle & Shine

  • Stop by Atherton Mill to experience the holiday magic of South End's holiday tree, lighting up the night sky every day between Thanksgiving and New Years! Take a walk through the historic building to see each shop's holiday décor. 
  • Art brightens South End year round, here's how to discover neighborhood art during the holiday season:
    • Explore the neighborhood at First Friday Gallery Crawl on December 3rd. Participating galleries decorate for the season and stay open late with special receptions. Dilworth Artisan Station will stay open every Saturday during the holiday season with themed décor. 
    • Go on a self guided art tour with South End Interactive. 
    • Professor Anne Low is directing a free South End art tour on December 4th and 11th. Stay tuned for RSVP details.

Give Back

  • Volunteer at the Rail Trail Cleanups from 10 am-12 pm on November 20th and December 11th, and join the community for a volunteer appreciation event after the Clean Up.
  • The Ashton is collecting toys, blankets, and food to benefit the local animal shelter between November 16-26. 
  • Camden Gallery Apartments are collecting non-perishable foods in support of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina until November 30th.
  • All American Pub is collecting unwrapped toys to benefit Toys for Tots. 
  • The CMPD Explorers host a toy drive every year benefiting families in our community. Learn how to donate here. 
  • Every Friday, Kenna Kunijo salon donates all retail proceeds to their charity of the month. 
  • Drop off your old books at the Little Free Libraries, or pick up a new book to enjoy during the holiday season!
