We Walk Together Charlotte

Details

What: We will WALK just over one mile through the historic Brookhill neighborhood in South End.

Who: All are welcome! Bring a friend!

Why: We are gathering again after sheltering in place and will revisit an historic neighborhood that is a timely backdrop for considering crucial social issues we are facing today. We'll start our walk at Friendship Trays, started in 1976 to deliver nutritious meals (and compassionate human connections) to elderly and infirm, living their motto "It's so much more than a meal." Friendship Trays, like most service groups, has struggled under COVID 19 rules and has had to restrict deliveries to their most vulnerable - only 5.2% of recipients are fully subsidized while most pay between 65 cents and $5 per meal.

Under current safety guidelines, we cannot physically serve at Friendship Trays on June 30, so please consider bringing the following donations on Monday.

· gloves (non powdered vinyl)

· small Igloo coolers

· sanitizing wipes

· Lance Nekot peanut butter crackers

· individual fruit/applesauce cups (unsweetened)

(if you cannot walk but still wish to donate, text Lani Lawrence at 704-756-6255 to schedule drop off or visit www.friendshiptrays.org/donate/nc-donor for donations/Amazon Wish List).

About the Walk: Bring masks and water. We will maintain safe social distancing. Parking is available on the street or in spaces next to the Friendship Trays building (towards the back of the C3 parking lot). Wear your green WWT tshirts if you have one (we will have some available onsite). To contribute to the walk discussion, we will be joined by neighborhood stakeholders, community law enforcement, Charlotte historian Tom Hanchett and Kevin Warren (Beds for Kids, another nearby service organization) among others. Note: Since we cannot participate in our usual service on June 30, mark calendars for July 15 when we will walk in the Belmont neighborhood with our July service partner, Support Her B.O.O.T.S., a veterans organization. Stay tuned for more details.
