We're excited to host a live conversation and gallery tour on Wednesday, August 19 at 6pm with Carmen Neely, currently featured in in (or for) perpetuity. Carmen discovers matters and ideas through the process of making, focused on the creation and evolution of gestures. Her work is uniquely relevant to today’s conversations that often leave us struggling to find words to express our thoughts and the gravity of this present moment. Reflecting upon her practice, Carmen shares:

“I have been thinking about ways in which the process I’m engaged in of habitually “re-translating” gestures is inherently a form of seeking out enough new methods of language to compensate for what cannot be effectively communicated verbally or through representational imagery. And what has been on my mind most is how this nature of seeking and re-imagining acts as a thread between black artists engaging in abstraction. I feel it is significant to consider these kinds of aesthetic explorations as valuable in the full scope of a cultural and personal response to trauma.”
