North Carolina is the only state on the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts that still allows large-scale inshore bottom shrimp trawling in our juvenile fish nurseries. For every 1 pound of shrimp caught, 4 pounds of valuable bycatch are discarded. Bottom trawls kill hundreds of millions of valuable fish and disrupt bottom habitats each year.

Join NCWF Charlotte Wildlife Stewards Chapter and take action to Save our Sounds by urging your representatives in Raleigh to prohibit the use of large-scale inshore bottom shrimp trawls in our shallow sounds. It’s time for North Carolina to move destructive inshore bottom shrimp trawling out of our estuaries, just as every other state on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts mandates and prioritizes the health of their marine resources.
