BONUS: Disrupting the Matrix at Elder Gallery of Contemporary Arts

Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art is thrilled to present Disrupting the Matrix, the gallery's first exhibition exclusively dedicated to the practice of printmaking. Featuring fifteen artists working in traditional and experimental methods of printmaking, Disrupting the Matrix will investigate a robust spectrum of practices and techniques, presenting a survey of printmaking that disrupts and exceeds conventional perceptions of what printmaking is or is not. Likewise, each artist's work will offer unique visual and conceptual commentaries that challenge the conventionally understood matrix of our world. Through the exploration of topics such as the human condition, sublimity, politics, social systems, race, language, and the psychology of self, 'Disrupting the Matrix' will provide an educational and insightful review of printmaking at the intersection of technique and narrative. Disrupting the Matrix will also feature a community-driven companion exhibition, Impressions, which will highlight works in printmaking by recent graduates of the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Featuring: Carla Aaron-Lopez, Stephanie Berrie, Bebonkwe Brown, Myles Calvert, Zuzanna Dyrda, Bree Gant, Beth Grabowski, Anna Kenar, Heather Muise, Althea Murphy-Price, Karen Oremus, Chadwick Tolley, Erik Waterkotte, Sir Will, and Koichi Yamamoto During the 'Disrupting the Matrix' opening reception on Friday, December 1, featured artist Will "Sir Will" Jenkins will host a public screen printing workshop. From 6:30 - 7:30 PM, or while supplies last, attendees will have the opportunity to dive into the art of screen printing, to create their own customized images using a pre-designed print. Guests will use their imagination, experiment with colors, and leave with a personalized masterpiece. This is a limited time workshop – first come, first served. To participate, please plan to arrive early!
